Leed Certification is administered and awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council, a Washington based nonprofit coalition of building industry leaders. Recently Lombard added another award to a long list of accomplishments. This award, The Midwest Construction Magazines 2009 “Best of Award,” recognized The Lombard Company for building excellence for Chicago’s Engine Company 18 Fire Station.

The Lombard Company Awarded the contract for the Advanced Cosmetic Laser and Surgery Center and Dermatology LTD. in Crest Hill, Illinois.
Construction is underway for the modern 14,350 square-foot building at Plainfield Road (U.S. 30) and Susanna Way. “This is really a monumental thing for our practice,” said Dr. Matthew Kelleher. “We’re thrilled to come here. We’ve been taking care of the Crest Hill community for over 40 years.” The practice was founded in 1968 by Dr. Morton Barnett, who is retired. Kelleher joined in 1992 and now serves as medical director. The group is the biggest dermatology practice in the state and it features one of the largest laser centers in the country, Kelleher said. When the new Crest Hill building is complete, the medical group will move out of its 11,000 square-foot leased space at 2400 Glenwood Ave., Joliet. The practice, which includes 11 dermatologists, offers both cosmetic and medical services. “The bulk of what the physicians do is medical dermatology,” Kelleher said. “Everything from acne, and psoriasis and eczema to skin cancer.” The practice also has office locations in Naperville, Morris and Yorkville.

The Crest Hill building, will feature glazed block and glass block elements. It was designed by Nevin Hedlund Architects in River Forest. “It’s a nice addition to the city,” said Warren Waterson, project superintendent for Lombard. “The landscaping and surrounding grounds will be designed to compliment this striking building.

The Lombard Company was selected over several other general contractors to build this important medical facility. Lombard has extensive experience in the medical field spanning fifty years and projects from entire hospitals to medical clinics.

Lombard awarded a $5,690,000 contract by the Cook County Forest Preserve District to construct the Camp Sagawau Learning Center in Lemont.
The Learning Center will be a concrete, steel and heavy timber structure. The work will consist of site clearing and rock excavation, new roadways and sidewalks; heavy timber roof trusses; and ashlar limestone veneer. The work also include LEED requirements.

An Extraordinary 25th
Anniversary Celebration!

In 1979, The Lombard Co. built a nine-story, 139 unit building for the elderly in Chicago's Chinatown. The building is adorned, in striking form, with symbols and ornamental panels coated in bright red and green, reflecting the Oriental culture of its tenants and the surrounding community. In order to make the project possible, the Lombard family became partners with a Chinese organization called Neighborhood Development Assistance, headed by Mr. G. H. Wang.

G.H. Wang sought the help of the late Michael A. Lombard, founder of The Lombard Company, knowing Michael understood Wang's vision of Oriental design and technological advancements. Acting as a general contractor for the project, The Lombard Company made molds in its Alsip, Illinois, shop to create the Chinese designs that embellish the Chinatown senior citizens apartment complex they built at 23rd Street and Princeton Avenue.

Taking advantage of special technology developed by a partnership of the structural engineer Dr. Paul Mast and the architect, Duane Linden, The Lombard Company was able to precast the entire building at its Alsip plant and assemble it on site at a considerable cost savings. Because of the vision, spirit and humanitarian goals shared by Wang and Lombard, this senior housing project remains as a social and economic success and a model for affordable housing developments.

On June 12, we celebrated the 25th anniversary of the opening of the Chinatown elderly housing project. It was quite an event, attended by representatives of the Mayor's office, the Governor's office and numerous high ranking Chinese officials. As a part of the day's ceremonies, as ordered by Chicago's City Council in a resolution adopted on May 26, 2004, portions of 23rd Street bear the honorary street name sign "G.H. Wang Street", and portions of Princeton Avenue bear the honorary street name sign "Michael A. Lombard Avenue" in honor of those responsible for the building's construction.

Another Excellence Award
LAPPCO has been awarded the 2003 Excellence in Precast Design Award from Precast/Prestressed Producers of Illinois and Wisconsin for its work in the Northwestern University McCormick Tribune Center at the Evanston, Illinois, campus.

Precast concrete was the ideal material for the sculptural shapes comprising the structure. The panels were attached column-to-column to steel framework in three primary areas of the center, including a thin, four-story rectangular section surrounding a glass entry and common area; a thicker, four-story windowed section of classrooms and media facilities; and a curved, forum-style theater. The limestone look helped the building to blend in with surrounding architectural designs.
